A professional
educator, Nancy Spence has facilitated awareness workshops for 30 years. She is the founder and director
of InnerVision, an educational organization in the mountains of western North Carolina offering self-discovery programs for
those seeking to transcend adversity and discontent. Nancy has a Master of Science
degree in Psychology and provides private counseling for individuals and couples who are serious about their personal
work and relationships. Before her current focus, Nancy taught Leisure Sciences at San Jose State University and Monterey
Peninsula College, both in California.
Nancy
is author of Back to Basics: An Awareness Primer, the text and audiotape for InnerVision’s
Not What But How workshops. She also authored The Tibetan Book of the Dead: An Adaptation for
Reading Aloud to the Dead, and is teacher and guide of Anattasati Magga, Inc., a Zen Buddhist Sangha
for the Laity that adheres to the practices of Soto Zen training. In 1977, Nancy began Buddhist training and entered Priest
training at Vichara Bodhiyana Monastery in California. Then she trained as a Lay Minister at Shasta Abbey in Mt. Shasta, California,
and received her Lay Minister license in 1984. She leads monthly Buddhist Services, offers individual spiritual guidance,
and leads three-day and week-long silent meditation retreats, both in North Carolina and California.
